Bethel Newspaper - March 07

My name is Eddie Rose ( I am Scott and Rosie Rose's oldest son). I am a 2008 graduate of Bethel University in Minnesota and was raised in the small town of Kasson Minnesota, just west of Rochester, home of the Mayo Clinic.

This page is about a disease called Diabetes......although I have not been personally diagnosed with Diabetes, I have been forever affected by it through my grandfather.  I watched him fight this disease for nearly 20 years.   My grandfather lost his battle on January 2nd, 2008.  Click here to learn more about my grandfather.  GRANDPA ROSE

Diabetes is often treatable and manageable with the right combination of exercise, diet and medicines.  Treatable and manageable thanks to the amazing people who've put countless hours on the clock researching new ways to treat and ultimately find a cure for this terrible disease.
LENDING A PEDAL FOR A NICKEL....  I bicycled from Southern California to Canada, a trip over 1800 miles, to raise money for Diabetes Research. The ride started July 2nd.  My goal was to accomplish this trip by the end of July.  I arrived in Vancouver on Thursday night the July 31st.

This bicycle trip took me north thru California, Oregon, and Washington State.  During this trip I maintained updates on this site and on my on-line blog where my students, family, and friends who have donated could follow my journey and monitor my progress and experiences.

We have heard from so many friends and family of Grandpa's...it's been awesome!  It's also been great to hear all the special stories people have about him; from teaching stories to cop stories...he touched alot of lives while he was here!  There have also been some great success stories about people living well with Diabetes!

You can still donate money directly to the American Diabetes Association in Grandpa's honor by clicking the yellow donation link on lower left hand corner of this page.

Any donation, regardless how big or small, to help me raise as much money as possible for diabetes research would be greatly appreciated.

This ride was not just for Grandpa, but so that others may have hope for a cure someday.  If you have any questions about the fund-raiser, please contact me by email or on my blog.

"I decided to do this ride a few weeks before Grandpa passed away and don't know if he ever was told about the ride. "Lending a Pedal for a Nickel" was something I never had the chance to talk to him about, but I will have 1831 miles to talk to Grandpa this month!"
